The University of Twente was founded in 1961 and is is based in Enschede, The Netherlands. The University of Twente is an entrepreneurial research university with special focus on technological developments in the knowledge society. It offers research and degree programmes in social and behavioral sciences and in technology.
The Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the UT is coordinating two Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programmes; namely Lot 7/8 for Iran, Iraq and Yemen (www.erasmusmundus8.net) and Lot 10 for Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP) (www.erasmusmundus10.net). ITC is also coordinating the GEM MSc, an Erasmus Mundus Action 1 programme (www.gem-msc.org).
The Faculty has played an active role in International Education and Research for over sixty years. It focusses on capacity building in developing countries, and has established a number of international partnerships, many of which have resulted in joint educational programmes at Masters level, and joint research programs.
Role of the organisation in the project
The Faculty of ITC will support the Polytechnic of Namibia in the implementation, coordination and financial administration of the programme. Furthermore, ITC will promote the Intra-ACP programme in Africa through its extensive alumni network.
